• The Earth is deeper than it is high.

The average depth of the ocean is 12,451 feet (3,773 meters). The average height of land above sea level is 2,756 feet (835 meters).

• Deepest Place in the Ocean.

The deepest point in the ocean is the Mariana Trench, in the South Pacific Ocean, 6.5 miles deep, more than deep enough to completely cover Mount Everest.

• Going down?.

Traveling at the speed of the fastest elevator in the Empire State Building, it would take 30 minutes to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

• I think they're all wet..

The oceans contain 97 percent of all the water on Earth

• How much water is in your bath tub?

46% of all the world's water is in the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean has 23.9%, the Indian Ocean has 20.3%, and the Arctic Ocean has 3.7%.

• Are people on low salt diets allowed to swim in the Atlantic Ocean?

The Atlantic Ocean is much saltier than the Pacific Ocean. The Atlantic is saltier than other oceans because some of the water that evaporates from the Atlantic is carried by winds into other oceans. Because of this, the Atlantic constantly loses fresh water to other oceans and becomes saltier.

• Surf's Up, Dude!.

The tallest ocean waves have been measured at 100 feet (30 meters) high!

• Supersonic Surfing!

Tidal waves are not caused by tides. The correct name is tsunami. Tsunamis are caused earthquakes, landslides, or volcanic eruptions that happen underwater. Tsunami waves can travel as fast as 600 miles (970 kilometers) per hour! On the surface of the open ocean, the waves of a tsunami are barely a ripple. The waves are usually only about 3 feet (1 meter) high or less.
