The program begins with an introduction of the specialized equipment used on the expedition and a look at how the Kuril Islands were formed. Two students are chosen from the audience to demonstrate the equipment used to explore the rough and frigid waters around the Kuril Islands. Using specially designed props, we also show how volcanoes are formed and how these islands were formed from volcanoes. After the demonstrations, undersea explorer, Wayne Brown, takes your students on his exciting visit, via a fascinating multi-image slide presentation, on The Russian Kuril Islands Expedition!
This multi-image presentation shows the earth not as a land planet, but a water planet. Your students are invited to join the Wayne Brown on the Russian expedition research ship where they meet the captain and expedition leader. Your students will join Wayne as he meets the local Russian people and explores these rugged and remote islands. As they accompany Wayne on a scuba dive, your students see the diversity of life that lives in these ice-cold waters. Your students learn how the Kuril Islands were formed. Your students also meet the animals that make the Kuril Islands their home.
After the multi-image presentation, as time allows, at the end of the presentation a brief time is set aside for a questions and answers.
