Still Cruising the Pacific Ocean

Location: Somewhere in the Central Pacfic Ocean (between Hawaii and Christmas Islands)

Day 14
by Wayne & Karen Brown

We are into our second day of cruising without land in sight. We did not get permission to stop at Palmyra Island, so we will have no land in sight until we reach Christmas Island in two days.

Even though no land is in sight the captian always knows exactly where we are at all times. Odyssey's navigational satellite receivers constantly update our position on the earth from signals beamed from satellites circling the earth. Back in the days of the sailing ships the captains navigated using the moon and the stars. A good captain could determine his position using the moon and stars almost as accurately as captains do today using modern technology.

From Odyssey we see nothing in the ocean around us. Much of the life in the oceans is usually found near land. We look forward to getting to Christmas Island to discover what things are living on and around the island.

Best Fishes,
Wayne & Karen Brown
